Pizza selling tips
Once you begin working with our company and selling Giovanni’s Frozen Pizza at your school’s concessions stand, you’ll want to approach how you sell the individual slices of pizza to determine the solution that works best for you and brings in the profits you are looking for.
Evaluate your selling options
Some schools bake our classic thin crust 12” pizzas and slice them into four pieces, selling each slice as a jumbo slice. This is a very generous portion size, making it an attractive value proposition for customers.
Alternately, if your school has the cooking facilities to accommodate doing so, you can bake our 14” rising crust pizza and sell it by the slice. Typically, cutting this size pizza into six slices works well and provides ample portion sizes.
Don’t over-slice your pizza
It may be tempting to cut each pizza you bake into as many slices as possible so that you have many individual products to sell, but this may ultimately end up being less lucrative, regardless of the original pizza size. We find that customers tend to see smaller slices as less of a value than a larger slice. Because they often perceive a larger slice as offering a greater value, they may be willing to pay a bit more for it.
Here’s an example of how this works. You might decide that you want to slice a 12” pizza into eight slices and sell each slice at $1.50. However, this will result in slices that are very small in appearance.
On the other hand, you could slice that same 12” pizza into four larger slices and charge $3.00 for each slice. By doing so, the portion size will appear larger, customers will perceive the pizza as having a greater value and you will earn the same amount of money in sales per pizza as you would if you cut the pizza into smaller slices.
